Carbon Dioxide (CO₂) is one of the first “clean” gases capable of extinguishing fires without leaving any residue. It does not leave deposits in the protected area, causes no damage to sensitive equipment, and requires no post-discharge cleanup. This feature allows businesses to quickly resume normal operations.

Extintech offers both high-pressure and low-pressure CO₂ systems based on operational requirements.

Carbon dioxide is a naturally occurring, non-corrosive, non-flammable gas that is chemically inert with most materials. It is typically stored in high-pressure cylinders or low-pressure tank systems. When discharged, it creates a fog-like vapor effect as ambient humidity crystallizes.

When released, CO₂ reduces the oxygen concentration in the protected area, effectively halting combustion. The fire is completely extinguished; however, due to the lowered oxygen levels, the area must be evacuated before system discharge and ventilated thoroughly before reentry is allowed.

CO₂ System Features

  • Rapid and effective fire suppression

  • Non-conductive

  • No harmful impact on the environment (ODP / GWP = 0)

  • No toxic or corrosive by-products

  • Low operational cost

  • Safe for sensitive equipment

  • Clean system advantage – no cleanup required

Applications

CO₂ systems are particularly preferred in industrial production and energy infrastructure environments:

  • Petrochemical plants

  • Offshore platforms

  • Gas turbines

  • Power generation stations

  • Printing and press machinery

Condensed aerosol fire suppression systems are a particle-based (solid+gas) fire suppression technology. These systems use a mixture of ultra-fine solid particles and gases to extinguish fires.

Gas and solid particles are generated through an exothermic reaction within the device. Before discharge, the aerosol condenses and cools, releasing into the environment in a solid particulate form. These particles are typically smaller than 10 microns, making them much finer and more effective than dry chemical extinguishers (25–150 microns).

How It Works

Condensed aerosol systems extinguish fires through a chemical reaction with free radicals—the fourth element of the fire tetrahedron. The system commonly produces potassium carbonate (K₂CO₃). When these particles contact the flame:

  • They interact with free radicals (OH•, H•, O•) generated by the fire,

  • Absorb heat energy,

  • Interrupt the chain reactions sustaining the flame.

Example reactions:

K• + OH• → KOH

KOH + H• → K• + H₂O

As a result, the system quickly suppresses the fire and produces harmless by-products like KOH and water.

Advantages

  • Very fast response time

  • Zero ozone depletion potential (ODP: 0)

  • Zero global warming potential (GWP: 0)

  • Minimal space requirement – compact system

  • Cost-effective solution

  • No permanent residue, minimal cleanup required

  • Effective regardless of fire’s location

  • Available with electro-mechanical or electric-only activation

Applications

  • Archives and document storage rooms

  • Lithium-ion battery containers

  • Electrical panels

  • Generator / CHP enclosures

  • Petrochemical plants

  • Offshore platforms

  • Gas turbines and power generation facilities

  • Industrial machines and production lines

Extintech provides design, installation, commissioning, and periodic maintenance services for condensed aerosol systems to the highest engineering standards.

Firetrace® is an automatic, self-actuating microtube fire suppression system that detects and extinguishes fire at its source. The core feature of this system is the special detection tubing, which is routed throughout the protected area to provide continuous coverage along its entire length.

When the temperature reaches 110°C (230°F) during a fire, the detection tube ruptures and releases the extinguishing agent directly at the ignition point. This ensures rapid and localized suppression in the very early stage of fire development.

Firetrace® systems can operate as stand-alone systems or be integrated with fire alarm systems or shutdown protocols for protected equipment.

System Options

Direct Firetrace® System

In this configuration, the detection tube both identifies the fire and acts as the discharge point for the extinguishing agent. The tube bursts at the hottest point and functions as a nozzle, discharging the agent directly at the flame.

Compatible agents:

  • FM200

  • Novec™ 1230

  • Carbon Dioxide (CO₂)

Indirect Firetrace® System

In this setup, the detection tube only serves as a sensing device. The extinguishing agent is discharged via fixed piping and strategically placed nozzles. Once the tube ruptures, the agent is released through a separate distribution network.

System Features

  • Cost-effective fire protection

  • Minimal extinguishing agent required

  • Fully pneumatic – no electrical power needed

  • Easy installation and retrofit integration

  • Low maintenance requirements

Applications

Firetrace® systems are ideal for stopping fire spread in compact spaces. They are commonly used in enclosed technical environments:

  • Electrical Panels

  • Data / Server Cabinets

  • Exhaust Hoods

  • Industrial Machinery

  • CNC and EDM Machines

At Extintech, we offer design, installation, integration, and maintenance services for Firetrace® systems with our expert team.
